Adventures in Editing: Update 17

My weekly, Friday update....

Welcome to another Friday Update on my Adventures in Editing series.

If this is your first time tuning in, the Adventures in Editing series is a set of weekly updates posted on Friday whenever I'm in the process of editing a book. I review my week, progress made on my goals, and establish new goals for the coming week. It's a way of keeping my readers informed of developing books, as well as a way of keeping me accountable.

This past week has been great! I've managed to slow down a bit, spend more time with family, and still make steady progress toward my goals. I also received a tiny bit of feedback from one of my Betas, which was super motivating. Beta 1 had commented a few weeks ago that the dialogue of the book was sounding good. Now, Beta 2 told me Wednesday that the story is entertaining and she was enjoying it so far.

Like said, just a tiny bit of feedback, but I'll take all that I can get!

With that said, let's take a look at my progress....

Goal: Make Revisions to Create Draft 6

Result: Nailed it! Wednesday night I finished making edits to Draft 6. The book is getting cleaner and cleaner, with each pass through picking up on stuff that wasn't picked up the first time around.

As of today, I stand at 108, 724 words for this WIP. I cut out scenes, added others, shortened sentences, changed out words, and done just about everything else you can think of.

The Plan: If you can believe it, we are knocking on the door of the last days of August. September begins on Thursday this upcoming week. We are coming into the final month of summer (Eeek!!)

This week is also going to be shot for me with regard to my WIP. Today, we're leaving on a 4-day cruise and won't be back in town until Monday. I start teaching my night classes again this Thursday, and then next Friday I'll be leaving on another weekend trip to celebrate my wedding anniversary. That leaves me with only 1-2 days to work on anything book related.

So, in keeping with the spirit of slowing down a bit and not burning myself out, I'm letting this week be a "loss" and not bother with a goal. If I find time to work on something, then it'll just be an added bonus.

That's all for today! Have a great week and don't forget to keep turning the page!
