The first draft of The Dissenter Saga has been completed.
I was away in Pine, CO for the holidays, and I had one goal in mind— finish my first draft before the New Year. Did I succeed? No, no I did not. Is the draft done? Yes, yes it is!
Believe it or not, I had one silly little scene to write. ONE! And that one kept me from meeting my goal. But guess what? On the road trip home from Colorado, I banged out that little scene. On January 2, 2022, I completed the first draft of the first installment of The Dissenter Saga. And let me tell you... it felt so damn good! The finished first draft ended up being just over 90k words. Can you even imagine writing that much??? It took me 2 years to bust that puppy out. But it's done!
So what's next?
Well, editing is next, and not just proofreading, but developmental editing. Those 90k words need to be cut down, refined, and the whole story looked over for consistency, logic, and just overall juicy goodness. But before I can get elbows-deep into the second draft, I'll need to let the story sit for awhile (approx. 2 months). This will allow me to look at it with a fresh pair of eyes and, hopefully, craft an even better version of this book. In the meantime, I'll be keeping busy.
That road trip home from Colorado produced some great ideas for book 2 AND book 3! So, while I'm letting that first draft bake in the oven for a bit, I'm off to the races to get a first draft of book 2 completed.
My ultimate goal is to have book 2 released shortly after book 1. But that means both books need to be on the finish line by the time I release book 1. That means that, in 2022, I need to have the first draft of book 2 completed and a polished final draft of book 1. That's a tall order, but I'm totally up for the challenge.
