Adventures in Editing: Update 5

My weekly, Friday update....

It's Friday! That means it's time to report in on my progress. Here's where I'm at:

  1. Goal: Finish Rewriting Beginning Chapters

    1. Result: Not so done.... Let me explain though, I totally did try! Here's where I'm at. I completely trashed the beginning of the novel, taking out the entire first chapter. But then I was left wondering what would be a better way to begin. The good news is, I think I found it, and I did write an entirely new version of Chapter 1. The problem is, it created a whole new tone for Chapter 1, which doesn't match up with how the rest of Act 1 sounds and feels. Soooo... that basically created more work for me, because it means going back through the rest of Act 1 to make sure that these new events established in this alternate beginning are included AND that Act 1 feels cohesive. It's a lot of work, and I'm still not done with it.

  2. Goal: Rewrite an Additional Scene

    1. Result: Nope! Not even close. Like I said above, now that I rewrote the entire first chapter with all new content, the rest of Act 1 has to flow with it, which it doesn't. Boo!

Although I was super pumped and did so much good work early on in the week, I also majorly slacked over the last few days, putting in ZERO words or time on the re-write. *insert grimacing emoji here!* The truth is, I could have totally had the rest of Act 1 cleaned up, but I totally got lazy and lost the drive.

No excuses though... I know I can do better, and today marks the beginning of a new week for me to continue my adventures in editing. So, with that said, here's the plan....

The Plan: My goal for this week is to finish editing Act 1. That means I want to finish going through Act 1 to make sure it holds together with this new, alternate Chapter 1 I've created. Additionally, as part of the Act 1 makeover, I have an idea for an additional scene for this Act that I think could be a lot of fun. So, if it fits and makes sense with the makeover, that would be my secondary goal- to write additional scene that I'll simply call "The Gala."

That's it. Let's see if I can get it done. Have an amazing weekend and keep turning the page!

If my stories have ever made you swoon, laugh, cry, or bite your nails with anticipation, and you're hoping I’ll keep the words coming, I'd be beyond grateful if you'd consider buying me a coffee.

That magical cup of caffeine? It tells me you're out there, reading, loving, and rooting for more romance, high-stakes drama, swoon-worthy book boyfriends, and fierce heroines facing impossible odds. A coffee is a little nudge that says, "Hey, keep going—I need more!"

Thank you so much for even considering it. Your support? It means the world to me. 🖤
