Adventures in Editing: Update 18

My weekly, Friday update....

September is here! Can you believe it?

This past week has been extremely busy for me with my day job, and, of course, I also started teaching again last night. I'm excited for this new semester, and it seems I have a great class of graduate students eager to learn.

One of the things I'm known for at the university where I teach is story telling. I tell so many stories of the different experiences I've had, the life lessons I've learned, and provide as much wisdom as I can to my students. And last night was no different. After telling my third story, the class was begging for more. It's a great experience to share my knowledge with others, and using story as a mechanism to teach is incredibly powerful.

I also came back from my family cruise this week. It was quick little trip to Ensenada, Mexico, leaving Friday and coming back on Monday. Unfortunately, due to situation in Mexico, we never got off the ship, but we still enjoyed the time away. If you're interested in seeing pictures, I've included a bunch below.

So, between cruising and working two jobs, I didn't set a goal for this week.

Currently, I've got appointments scheduled with my Betas for feedback sessions. I've completed all of my own edits, so I'm just waiting to hear from them. After I collect their feedback and make any last minute adjustments, I'll be sending the book off to an editor.

Even though I didn't have a goal for myself this week, I did manage to get some work done. Let's take a look at what I accomplished:

Bonus Goal: Begin Writing Book 2

Result: Eek! I can't even believe that I started doing this, but I totally did. I managed to produce about 5,500 words, and it felt soooo good! Something that was surprising to me was how hard it was to shift my brain back into "writing" mode since I've been doing "editing" for so long. The flow state was not as easy as it usually is for me, but I did get this book started, which made me so happy since I really want to dive deep into this book during NaNoWriMo this year.

The Plan: This week shouldn't be quite as chaotic as last week. I'm going away for the weekend on another trip, so that scratches out those days. And I have a full work week between both of my jobs. As such, I'm keeping this week easy with one simple goal to work towards: finding an editor.

With that said, if any of you have a recommendation for an editor that enjoys doing YA/New Adult dystopian romance, please send the information my way!

That's all for today! Have a great week and don't forget to keep turning the page!
